1.New RTX 3050 Model
The RTX 3050 might be getting a second version, this is all determined by the availability of the GA106 SKU though. Some rumors suggest that NVIDIA might have a backup plan to produce more 3050’s if there is a shortage on the GA106 SKU, then they will introduce a version with the GA107SKU that is mainly used on the 3050 for gaming laptops. Another thing that goes within the rumor is that the GA107 will have a lower TDP of 115W instead of 130W. Now there might be a performance difference but no one can say for sure if that will be the case as we will only be able to say with 100% certainty when the 2 can be compared, but if there’s no shortage of the GA106 we might never even see the GA107 version.

2. BestBuy Pay Wall
The sheer amount of greed going on with tech parts lately is sickening and now BestBuy has just shown that again, they are the exclusive resellers for RTX 30 series founder edition GPUs in the USA. Well now to get your hands on one you need to buy their $200 yearly subscription. And this isn’t a way to keep away scalpers, no, you can still buy up to 7 GPUs in one shot as long as they are different models. With the $200 totaltech service, customers have access to a special protection program, 24/7 tech support, or even AppleCore+ service. So technically you now pay $200 more for whichever GPU you want to buy from BestBuy.

3. Intel Mining Chip More Efficient
Another touchy subject is crypto mining, something not a lot of people actually consider is with the amount of crypto that’s being mined, there is also a vast amount of electricity being used in conjunction. Well, Intel has now said that their new mining chips will be a lot more energy-friendly, the chips are expected to launch later in this year and are supposedly 1000x times better in performance per watt against mainstream GPUs for SHA-256 based mining. Intel says more information about the chip will become available at the International Solid-State Circuits Conference, which starts on February 20th.

4. New High-end Intel CPUs
While we have seen a lot of new releases on the CPU side for basic PC use and gaming, the High-end desktop users have seen very little action apart from the Threadripper ‘WX’. That might change soon though as leaks suggest that Intel is planning to launch their Intel Sapphire Rapids-AP CPUs this year. So far there are 4 different versions to be rumored, the Sapphire Rapids-SP XCC which will be more server-focused. Then Sapphire Rapids-112L XCC, which will offer up to 112 PCIe Gen 5.0 lanes, these fall under the Workstation platform. The Sapphire Rapids-SP MCC config will offer medium core counts but with 8-Channel memory support and lastly the entry-level SPR-MSWS mainstream workstation that will feature the same MCC die but with 4-channel DDR5 memory support. That’s just the base of it though and there is a lot to cover on them, but we will do that when they actually launch.

5. Intel CPUs Getting Micro Transactions
Microtransactions in games are horrible especially when it’s a pay-to-win structure, well we will soon be seeing it in our hardware as well. With Intel planning to implement their Software Defined Silicon feature on new Xeon CPUs. It seems like this will first be seen on the Linux 5.18 that will come out later this year. Now, this has some good and bad points to it, number one is cost, having to make only 1 CPU instead of multiple variants will cut down production costs. As everyone’s needs are different you might not need a feature on a CPU but you will still pay for it. With this structure, you can get what you need and not pay for it. The backlash Intel has been getting over this has been rough, but it’s also because they haven’t been very transparent about the whole thing either.

6. i9 – 13900K Leaks
It seems like we have a lot of Intel news today. Anyway, we just received the 12th gen CPUs a few months ago, and well there’s a benchmark out for the 13th gen 13900K raptor lake from Intel now.
We’re now getting 24 cores and 32 threads for the Core i9-13900K, that’s quite the upgrade from the 16 cores and 24 threads on the Core 12900K. The game that was benchmarked was Ashes of singularity, and the 13900K was already as fast as the 12900K during its engineering phase, which is quite remarkable as there are still months left for improvements and fine tuning the CPU. This is all very exciting and stuff but I feel like there’s a new Genm coming out every 6 months now geez.
7. Crazy Alienware Monitor
A tech sector we have seen major improvements in lately has been on monitors, and Alienware is set to yet again improve drastically in this segment with the very first quantum dot OLED display. This new monitor has a 175 Hz refresh rate and an ultrawide 3440 x 1400 resolution with a 1800R curvature, for content creators, it has 99.3-percent DCI-P3 and 149-percent sRGB coverage, a typical brightness of 250 nits, and a peak brightness of 1000 nits. But don’t expect this to be cheap though, remember this is Alienware and this will retail for $1300 if scalpers can keep their greedy damn hands off of this.

8. Uber Getting Into Crypto
Cryptocurrency has grown massively in popularity the last couple of years, we briefly saw tesla accepting BTC as payment for their cars last year, and that was just the start, as more companies are interested in the tech and getting their hands on some of the lucrative digital currency. But the main concern for these companies has always been the way Crypto has been mined as we mentioned earlier it uses a lot of electricity and companies feel that it’s not good for the environment. Well UBER has decided that they will now also start to accept BTC as payment. Dara Khosrowshahi the CEO of UBER said “As the exchange mechanism becomes less expensive and becomes more environmentally friendly, I think you will see us leaning into crypto a little bit more.” So hopefully when this new Intel chip comes out digital currency will become the new norm.
