Eufy S220 vs. C220 Review: One’s a Gem, the Other’s Going Back in the Box
Security cameras. They're the still-unsolved enigma of the modern home. How do you get that your iPhone can film a cinematic high school movie classic, and yet footage of a bank robbery continues to look like it's been shot using a potato? And have you looked at the prices of some of these CCTV systems? Insanity.

Eufy S220 vs. C220 Review: One's a Gem, the Other's Going Back in the Box

Security cameras. They're the still-unsolved enigma of the modern home. How do you get that your iPhone can film a cinematic high school movie classic, and yet footage of a bank robbery continues to look like it's been shot using a potato? And have you looked at the prices of some of these CCTV systems? Insanity.

Enter Eufy with two budget-friendly options: the SoloCam Eufy S220 and the Solo IndoorCam Eufy C220. One's solar-powered for the great outside, the other's got 360° AI tracking for in your house. One of them I loved. The other? Not as much.

Let's get into it.

Eufy c220

Eufy C220: The Indoors MVP

The Eufy C220 is Eufy's answer to a feature-rich inside camera that won't drain your wallet. It offers:

  • 360° Pan and 75° Tilt – Leave it sitting on a shelf, stick it to a ceiling or a wall. It basically spins on its stand. King Julian anyone?
  • 2K Video Quality – It's not film quality, but it's definitely useable. The only downside is that it records at 15 frames per second, so blurring of moving objects can happen slightly.
  • Stellar Night Vision – With built-in infrared sensors, the thing has night vision that's like a bat on steroids.
  • Privacy Mode – Press a button and it really spins around and disables audio. It's like tucking your camera in.
  • Two-Way Audio – With the Eufy app, you can talk to your pets or yell at burglars (or roommates).
  • Local Storage – No subscriptions required. Pop in an SD card and you’re good to go. It does support cloud backup, but it’s optional.

AI Tracking: Cool but Clunky
It tracks people, animals, and activity with onboard AI. It's smart… until it isn't. More than one user and it gets confused and resets. Occasionally also re-initiate tracking even when turned off. Could be a bug, could be user error – to be determined.

Verdict
The Eufy C220 is a winner. It's affordable, private, flexible, and convenient. If you need a decent indoor camera, this one is more than worth it.

Eufy S220: Good Thought, Poor Execution

Now here's where things turn disappointing.

The Eufy S220 is supposed to be an outside, solar-powered, battery-powered security cam. Theoretically, it's perfect. But in practice, not quite.

Here's the hype:

  • Solar-powered with built-in panel
  • 2K resolution, 15 fps
  • Weather-resistant for outdoor use
  • Two-way audio
  • Night vision

Sounds good, doesn't it?

The Problem: Battery Life is a letdown
I put two Eufy S220 units – one on the gate and one where my dogs congregate in the back. They both got some good sun exposure. I fully charged both of them before installing them. One week later.

One was dead as a doornail

The other was at 20%

Okay, so it was a cloudy week. So I attempted them again – put one in the sunlit window. Still flat. Jump-started with the USB-C charger. Full charge. Out in the sunlight again. Still died.

It looks like this is not an unusual issue. Reddit and forums are filled with similar reports.

Is It Perhaps Overactive Recording?
The Eufy S220 will save motion clips rather than streaming video to help prolong battery life. Alright. So I established a "dead zone" not to get cars passing by and just focus on the driveway.

Still didn't work.

And There's This:
Because it's not hardwired, it's also a little bit of a security risk. As long as it's not mounted where they can't get at it, someone could pretty much just unscrew it and take it. Ironically, you'd have unobstructed 2K video of them doing it.

Also to note – some of the above features like vehicle/pet detection and face recognition are behind the Eufy's Homebase 3 Hub, but I didn't possess it and still got by using the camera. So you don't necessarily need it if you don't care about those bells and whistles.

Verdict:
I'm sending it back. The concept is excellent. The execution – especially in terms of battery life – is inherently flawed.

Final Thoughts

Both the Eufy C220 and the Eufy S220 come with strong app support, solid audio capabilities, and decent footage quality. Most importantly: no required subscriptions. Huge plus.

But if you’re looking to monitor the outside of your home without constantly recharging the battery, the Eufy S220 might not be ready for prime time. On the other hand, the Eufy C220 is a genuinely smart buy for indoor surveillance.

At WeDoTech, we spend the money so you don't have to – sometimes waste it.
