If I Were Google Today, I'd Be Afraid
If I were in a Google executive room today, having my corporate latte, I'd be quivering in my $2,000 designer shoes. Because Google, the longtime undisputed champion of the internet, is now facing serious threat — on two fronts.
And to be honest? It took them long enough.
Reason #1: People Aren't "Googling" Anymore
Come on. We used to say "Google it" as if it was the default answer to every question.
Now? Not so much.
Increasing numbers of people are bypassing Google altogether and going straight to ChatGPT, Claude, or any one of dozens of AI tools to become smarter, cleaner, faster wiser.
Why slog through pages of SEO-stuffed blog spam when you can simply inquire of AI and receive what you require in one, simple reply?
Google search is beginning to feel outdated — and not cool retro, thankfully. But in the "why am I still doing this?" way.

Reason #2: The Epic Games Lawsuit Just Kicked Google in the Knees
In one of the most significant court fights in recent tech history, Epic Games (yes, the Fortnite guys) just landed a knockout blow on Google.
A U.S. judge decided that Google can no longer impose its monopoly on Play Store payments. What does it mean?
It means that developers are now at liberty to use their own payment systems rather than paying a cut to Google every time a consumer purchases something in-app. That's enormous revenue loss to Google and an enormous gain to developers, consumers, and the philosophy of open platforms.
In short: Google is losing its grip on the Android economy.
The Dominoes Are Falling
Add these two developments together:
- Individuals using AI rather than Google Search
- Developers dropping Google's payment platform on Android
And you start to notice the bigger picture. Google's grip on the two pillars of its dominance -- search and mobile -- is beginning to slip.
Not abruptly. Not dramatically. But steadily and surely…
Google is losing relevance. Should We Be Rooting for It? Maybe.
Google has enjoyed near-monopolistic domination for decades. Watching that unravel a bit? Sort of nice. More competition typically means:
- Better innovation
- Lower fees
- More choices for users
But it raises the question too: What's next?
Will AI search totally supplant Google? Will Android be turned into a free-for-all of app stores and payment pathways?
We'll see. But one thing's certain:

If I Were Google… I'd Be Shivering
Yes, shivering. That's how terrified I'd be.
Because the world's moving quickly, and even giants of tech can't escape. Adapt or get left behind. And currently, it appears Google's playing catch-up.
What do you think? Is Google still invincible? Or is the crown slipping?
