HTC is set to unveil a new mixed reality headset at CES on January 5 that combines virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) capabilities. The as-yet-unnamed headset will feature front and side-facing cameras, hand tracking, and controller support with six degrees of freedom. The cameras will enable color passthrough, which allows for mixed reality applications, and the headset will be self-contained with a battery life of 2 hours.

HTC’s global head of product, Shen Ye, stated that the headset will be designed to be small, lightweight, and comfortable, and will be used for gaming, entertainment, exercise, and even enterprise tools. While it is unclear whether the headset will have inward-facing cameras for eye tracking, HTC has indicated that it will offer advantages over competitors such as the Meta Quest Pro, including higher dynamic range on the cameras and a focus on privacy. This flagship offering will reportedly go up against the $1,500 Quest Pro.
