First Review Of Intel Core i5-13400 – Up To 29% Faster Than i5-12400

For two weeks now, Intel’s 13th Gen Core series CPUs have been available on the Asian market, prior to their official launch at CES 2023 in January. However, not all board makers have released supporting BIOSes yet, particularly for the 600-series. This is an issue as Intel has yet to release a next-gen mid-range B760 motherboard series which should be used with these new CPUs. JAWARA media has managed to get their hands on both the new CPU and a working BIOS for their ASRock B660M PG Riptide motherboard. This board paired with DDR4-3600 memory was used for a comparison between Core i5-12400 and i5-13400, which was posted 8 days ago in a short video. This is the first comparison of this type of retail processor that has been made available to the public.

The Core i5-13400 features 4 extra Efficient cores and a 200 MHz higher turbo clock (4.6 GHz) than its predecessor. Cinebench R23 testing shows that single-thread performance has increased by only 5%, while multi-threaded performance has seen a 29% uplift. Power and thermal tests reveal that the CPU requires 20W more power, but the temperature has only increased by 1°C. Both CPUs have the same base power of 65W, while their boost power should be around 117W.
