Huawei P60 and Mate 60 Dropping Kirin For Qualcomm

As 2023 approaches, Huawei is reportedly preparing to return to its dual flagship launch tradition. According to a Weibo tipster, Wangzai, the Huawei P60 and Mate 60 series will be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 4G and Snapdragon 8+ Gen 2 4G chipsets respectively. This suggests that Huawei may not be using Kirin chipsets for their flagship devices next year. This move follows the increased use of Qualcomm processors in all categories of Huawei devices this year, with the Mate 50 being the first to use the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 4G mobile processor. This shift is likely due to reduced Kirin chip stock and issues in Huawei’s supply chain unit. At this time, there is still limited information available on what Huawei has planned for these two flagships. However, it appears that they are set to resume their dual-flagship tradition with Qualcomm processors at the helm.

The Huawei P60 series is expected to launch near March-April 2023 and is rumored to be powered by the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 2 processor. This makes sense as the chipset has already been launched and should easily move on to that platform instead of choosing the first-generation processor. While consumers were expecting Kirin to return with the Mate 60 series, a Huawei report has confirmed that this won’t be happening next year. However, there is still a lot of time left in the year for more information to be revealed about the P60 series and other upcoming devices from Huawei.
