Intel and AMD are gearing up for an exciting battle in the mainstream segment, with the 13th Gen Intel Non-K and Ryzen 7000 Non-X CPU families taking full advantage of budget motherboards to attract gamers. Intel currently offers both B660 (DDR4 + DDR5) motherboards for gamers and general consumers, while AMD has the B650 lineup which is DDR5-only. However Intel’s new B760 (DDR4 + DDR5) is right around the corner.
Recent reports suggest that Intel’s upcoming B760 motherboards will be slightly more expensive than their B660 predecessors at launch, with a price increase of up to 10%. This means buyers could be looking at a maximum $10-$15 US price increase on B760 board iterations. For budget gamers, this increase in price may be a cause for concern. However, Intel may still remain competitive versus AMD’s offerings, since AMD’s B650 motherboards cost too much. By the time Intel launches its B760 motherboards, their existing B660 line should already be available at discounted rates, and considering that both 12th and 13th Gen CPUs are compatible with either of these motherboards, most consumers may opt for the cheaper B660 options.
Intel’s B760 motherboards and 13th Gen Non-K CPUs will be available in the first week of January, just a week prior to the AMD Ryzen 7000 Non-X CPU launch. It will be interesting to see which of the two CPU lineups will come out on top, and whether Intel will remain competitive against itself.
