Toyota unveils first electronic bakkie, the Hilux Revo BEV at 60th Anniversary Of The Thai Branch.
PS. In South Africa, we call trucks, Bakkies.
Toyota Motors unveiled a surprise preview of its first electric pickup truck, the Hilux Revo BEV, at the 60th anniversary celebrations of its Thai branch. The reveal of the electric Hilux suggests that the truck may be launched in the Asian market before making its way to the United States. No idea if it will arrive in South Africa. But if any bakkie EV will be available here it will most likely be the Hilux.

While Toyota President Akio Toyoda did not provide details on pricing or specifications, he did emphasize that complete and rapid electrification may not be the only solution for sustainable transportation and may even do more harm than good when rushed.
Toyoda also highlighted the potential of emission-free synthetic fuels and hydrogen as alternative technologies for achieving carbon neutrality. Toyota has a history of success in hybrid and hydrogen vehicle technology and is reportedly considering a major overhaul of its EV strategy, potentially introducing vehicles that are specifically designed and produced with electric powertrains in mind.
